THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF WOMENS STATUS, LAKIA

VISITOR CENTER

The Desert Embroidery Visitor Center located at our headquarters in Lakia welcomes visitor groups from Israel and abroad for traditional Bedouin hospitality.  Our hand woven Bedouin tent can comfortably seat large groups on chairs or mattresses. Group visits are planned ahead to suit the interests of each group and can include light refreshments, a home-cooked meal, an explanation on the Association and its work by one of our members, and background on Bedouin life with a particular focus on women and children.

Special interest topics can be accommodated, such as lectures on traditional Bedouin life, ecology, workshops in embroidery and jewelry making, meetings and activities with schoolchildren studying English in our classrooms, and more. Every visit includes time to visit our air conditioned store where a large selection of handmade items is available, as well as a chance to chat with friendly Bedouin women.

All income from visits to the Desert Embroidery Visitor Center goes toward the support of the Desert Embroidery project. We are a non-profit organization recognized and audited in Israel. We welcome donations from our visitors and can provide information on making tax free contributions from abroad, but no pressure is applied and we do not request  donations.

Please Note: All group visits must be arranged in advance. Please contact the Association by email or at telephone 08-6513208 from 9:00 – 14:00 on Sunday through Thursday and 10:00 – 16:00 on Saturday. We will be happy to discuss your needs and send you our Visitor Center price list. Weekend visits are possible and clean restrooms are available on site.
