Youth Leadership: Blooming in the Desert
We believe that the future of the Bedouin community lies in the advancement of the younger generation. Our programs to develop leadership skills in the younger generation take place after school and on weekends. Youth leaders and social workers meet with girls and boys aged 14 – 18 for meetings that are both educational and fun. The programs include educational field trips and community volunteering. While our original programs included only girls, we now welcome and encourage boys to participate.
Our Objectives:
Increasing self-confidence
Strengthening the desire for higher education
Developing community commitment
Building tools to combat violence, drug use and other challenges facing the Bedouin community
Recently we initiated a program to combat school and family violence through the development of a community theatre project for our youth leadership groups.
We have been running youth leadership programs for over two decades. The majority of our graduates have continued their studies after high school. Today they include doctors, lawyers, social workers, pharmacists, nurses and teachers, among others.
